Nothing can prepare any of us to know what to do when a tragedy occurs; your kindness will always be remembered and our gratitude will be endless! Another heartfelt thank you goes out to the St. Francis community for remembering our BCA family through letters and prayers to family, staff, and students. Technology and Education Since BCA was started over 8 years ago, our mission has always included technology connecting to education. The technology coordinator and the teachers have been committed to increasing their knowledge and use of technology to best serve our staff and students. The BCA Technology Committee includes staff and board members. Mr. Fox and Mr. Rettig, Mrs. Kohler and Ms. Miller have attended some powerful workshops recently to help us continue the vision of of integrated technology at BCA. Thanks and congratulations for this continued leadership. Team 2 Engaging and hands-on activities are what connect learning to real life. Team 2 has been studying Carbon Footprinting and has partnered with the Earth Literacy Center to make this real-life connection. They made solar ovens last week and today they are making paper from recycled materials. This paper with also have seeds within it that can be planted for the continuation of new growth. Team 3 Technology also engages by allowing student to be connected to real people in far away places. Ms. Miller's 8th grade English class skyped with a Vietnam veteran and a veteran soldier in Iraq. This activity was used to help students write a paper to compare and contrast the two different wars and the things afforded to the soldiers during different eras. Students have been reading the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien which discusses the material things as well as the lasting memories of war time as a soldier. The students were amazing with the respect they demonstrated as well as the quality of questions they asked of each veteran! Nicely done! Team 1 and Team 4 Mrs. Angles' (Team 4) son Justin partnered with Team 1 this morning to present his knowledge as a future Pharmacist. His presentation was on Poison Control Awareness. Mr. Hose and Mr. Mulligan (parent) assisted in engaging the students in this presentation. Team 4 Physical Science students also produced Spool Racers today and were outside experimenting with what racer would come in first!!
I am so proud of all the accomplishments our staff and students are demonstrating as we continue on our commitment to excellence!
