What’s New for School Year 2011-2012 from the Ohio Department of Education?
With backpacks and lunch boxes in hand, it’s time for Ohio students to head back to school. To make sure you and your family have the information you need to make this school year a success, here are some links for information you will need during the coming school year.
Family Guides
If you’d like to know what your student will be expected to know and do this school year, from preschool to Grade 12, see the Standards Guides for Families
Testing
The Ohio Achievement Assessments and the Ohio Graduation Tests are scheduled for the fall. Find out when when you child will be tested
If your child needs to take the Ohio Achievement Assessments, ODE has practice tests available.
Calamity Days
School closures because of weather or other emergencies are always a concern for parents. Changes to the law now allow districts to provide three days of online classes or “blizzard bags” for students to continue learning during Calamity Days. Ask your principal how your district will handle Calamity Days this school year.
State ID Cards for Kids
The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles offers a way for parents to apply for a photo ID for their children. See theID R Kids website for information and an application.
Other Resources
ODE has a special area of its website devoted just to information for families. It includes information on how to choose a school for your child, getting involved with your child’s school, helping students with special needs and talents, and more. Click here for information.
